The Armor of God (Ephesians 6) is not just the apostle Paul’s assessment of the
Christian faith in accordance with pieces of armor. These pieces of armor
are spiritual realities that aid us in our daily battles. Day to day we are opposed
by evil forces(spirits) who seek to gain entry into our emotions and our hearts by
doorways that we leave open to them due to our lack of readiness in spiritual
warfare. The Helmet of Salvation helps us to remember that as Christians, we
have been saved by God’s grace and that there is no condemnation in Christ.
The breastplate of righteousness lets us know that the righteous will shine like the
sun. As children of God we are called to live righteous lives taking on the
character of Jesus Christ. The shield of Faith is our faith in Jesus who’s protection
and guidance is with us at all times. The belt of truth is the truth of righteousness
in us and the belief in the true righteousness/faithfulness of God. Without faith
it is impossible to please God. The shoes of Peace are the peace that we have
in Christ Jesus. The Sword of the Spirit is the power of the word of God. The word
of God is sharper than any double edged sword...It separates light from dark
and righteousness from the wicked deeds of darkness. Put on the Full
Armor of God every day.
